Our Tribute to Subrata Mitra
We all,at STEEL TECH, were shockedand pained on hearing
the news of sudden demise of our beloved and esteemed
Editorial Board Member, Mr. Subrata Mitra on 20th October’21.
Mr Mitra was born on 24th February, 1950. He did his
Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata
in 1972. He started his career at Hindustan Motors and
after a brief period of 6 months, he joined WesmanEngg.
Co. Ltd. After working for another 6 months there, he joined
Alloy Steel Plant at Durgapur.Gaining a solid back ground
of plant operation and maintenance during his seven years
tenure in ASP, Durgapur, he joined M N Dastur & Co (P) Ltd.
as Assistant Engineer in 1981. He specialised in steelmaking
area and widely travelled in both domestic and international
steel plants on project work. In early eighties, he was involved
in theproject work of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant at Vizag
and helped setting up the integrated steel plant andlater its
expansion also- both in phase 1 & 2. He was also associated
with all the modernisation and expansion projects at Tata
Steel-Jamshedpur, Gopalpur and later at Kalinganagar Steel
plant. He spent one year in Egypt working at Suez Steel Plant
for its project implementation. Besides these, he worked in the
project area for many other steel plants in India and abroad
such asJindal Steel, ESSAR, Mittal Group and Kazakhstan.
